Matt5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 2 Tim 2:22 But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
[Part 2 of 2] In order to learn righteousness, we have to learn to deal with all the unrighteous things. Before we became a Christian, we might have done many unrighteous things, such as taking advantage of others, deceiving others, or unconsciously taking their possessions as our own. All these are unrighteousnesses. Some might even have done worse. Some have been unrighteous not only in material things, but with respect to the rights of others. Everyone has his own right. If you do not respect the rights of others, you are being unrighteous. Some parents argue with each other all the time. There is no peace between them all year round, and their children are deprived of the peace they deserve. As a result, the parents have trampled the rights of their children under their feet. This is being unrighteous. Some husbands have not fulfilled their duty as husbands. Some wives have not fulfilled their duty as wives. These are also unrighteousnesses. Now that we have become Christians, we should learn to deal with these unrighteous things. How well we run the race before us depends on how well we have learned the first lesson. God's redemption tells us that God has saved us in such a righteous way that we can no longer live carelessly on earth; we have to be righteous. At least we should learn this one lesson. Once we know of any unrighteousness, we have to deal with it because all unrighteousnesses are sins.
